About this event

The 21st Annual Cap2Cap is almost here! Join us for a final training ride on the Virginia Capital Trail. This is your chance to simulate event-day conditions, test your setup, and get those legs ready for the big push on May 9th.

Logistics & Route

  • Start Location: 3101 Wharf St, Richmond, VA 23223 (Stone Brewing/Richmond Intermediate Terminal)

  • Major Rest Stop: Simply Cycle (Approx. 25 miles from start)

    • Address: 11601 John Tyler Memorial Hwy, Unit 2A, Charles City, VA 23030

  • Facilities: Public restrooms are located at Market 5 near the parking lot.

  • The Halfway Point: The 25-mile mark in Charles City is the midpoint for those riding to and from the Jamestown Settlement.

Choose Your Distance Strategy

  • For the Supported 50-Milers: Use this ride to feel exactly what your event day will be like. Riding to Simply Cycle and back gives you a full 50-mile preview of the terrain and effort required.

  • For the Unsupported 100-Milers: If you are tackling the full Century, use this as a high-volume "taper" ride. You may want to push past the 25-mile mark to add extra mileage, bringing you closer to that 100-mile goal, while keeping your intensity controlled.

Mandatory Gear

To participate, you must be self-sufficient and safe:

  • Helmet: Required for all participants.

  • Tool Kit: Spare tubes, levers, and a CO2 inflator or mini-pump.

  • Hydration/Nutrition: Bring your planned event-day fuel to test your stomach and energy levels.

How to Approach This Final Prep Ride

Since the Cap2Cap is less than two weeks away, your goal today isn't to build new fitness, but to refine your execution.

  • 1. Test Your "Game Day" Kit: Wear the bibs, jersey, and socks you plan to use for the event. This is the last chance to find and fix any "hot spots" or chafing issues.

  • 2. Dial in Your Fueling: Treat this as a laboratory for your gut. Practice the timing of your gels, bars, and electrolytes. If you’re doing the 100-mile ride, pay close attention to how your energy levels feel at the 2.5-hour mark.

  • 3. Pace with Purpose: Don't chase personal records today. If you’re riding the 50, find a rhythm you can sustain for the whole route. If you’re riding the 100, stay in your "Zone 2" (conversational pace) to build endurance without over-fatiguing your muscles before May 9th.

  • 4. Rest Stop Efficiency: Use the stop at Simply Cycle to practice getting in and out quickly. On event day, long breaks can lead to stiff legs; practice refilling bottles and stretching efficiently

Let's get those final miles in. See you on the trail!
